Super League 2020 is all set to begin on February 20. For the first time, the
entire tournament will be played in Pakistan, marking the beginning of what is
hoped to be a full revival of international cricket in Pakistan. The hugely
popular tournament comprising six teams will be held across four venues, Gaddafi
Stadium (Lahore), National Stadium (Karachi), Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
(Rawalpindi) and Multan Cricket Stadium (Multan).
Islamabad United, Karachi
Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Multan Sultans, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators
will compete for the coveted Championship. Islamabad United has won the
championship twice, including the inaugural edition in 2016, and Peshawar Zalmi
(2017) and Quetta Gladiators (2019) have won the tournament once each.
The event is expected to continue
to attract fans as stars like Shoaib Akhtar, Darren Sammy, Babar Azam and Jason
Roy are in the offing. The event promises to be a huge spectacle on the cricketing
calendar of the year not only in Pakistan but also across the entire world. In
the wake of the recently completed U19 world cup, the ongoing Women’s T20 World
Cup, and the rekindled spirit for the game among the emerging countries, both
IPL and PSL are expected to create revenues for the respective organizing bodies
and the broadcasting media organizations at levels unseen before.
